Pro 2 Task 3: Final piece

After the incident at the printers i had to re-edit my image a bit. I think it looks really well, i like the contrast in the curves of the flower and the sharp edges of the text i like how all the textures that are all part of life, make up the word. Very pleased with this. I have it printed on photo paper (its not very shiny though, but it cost enough to make you think it was photo paper) and mounted on black foam board with a small outline.

Pro 2 Task 3: More development

So for the image above i used the full 9×9 square to write the word life. You can still see all 9 images but not fully. I really like how it turned out, i love textures and this is just full of them, i like how they all work together two.

I changed the levels of the type so they were a bit darker. I felt that out of the 9 images i picked, the one with the flower summed up the word life best. I changed the opacity on this so it was very faint in the background. I think the curves of the flower work nicely with the sharp edges of the type.

Just playing with composition

i think i like the above image best, but id rather have it the full length of the piece.

i created  a circle and feathered it so i could delete it and have soft edges, it works well but i think the white is a bit harsh.

i added a black edge to this, but don’t think it works

in this image i have two layers with the flower image, one has the feathered circle cut out where the word life is so the image is a bit lighter under the word. much softer than before.

Pro 2 Task 3: Research

Ive decided to do a bit of research and try to come up with something better.

Im still going to use the word “life” so i looked up the definition of it, to see if i could find something else:

The properties or qualities that distinguish living plants and organisms from dead or inanimate matter, including the capacity to grow, metabolize nutrients, respond to stimuli, reproduce, and adapt to the environment. The definitive beginning and end of human life are complex concepts informed by medical, legal, sociological, and religious considerations.

I like the words grow and complex, maybe i could hide them within my image?

I thought this one looked a bit like my early trials, with the tiles.

I love this, the photo is so crisp and clear, i love the colour of the steal, with the rust on it and how it creates the really nice shadow.

Changing the opacity could be an idea for my piece.

Really nice typography in this piece, like the contrast between the dark photo and white type as well.

This is what i was trying to achieve with my piece, using a different image for each letter.

I feel this piece looks much better, The background is a collage (which is what my 9 images are) I could use the full 9×9 square to write the word life and then use one image that sums up life in the background but change the opacity so its very light. I also like how this one seems to glow in the centre. And i think having something in the background is much more appealing. the white background is just too boring, even this cream one makes such a difference.

I really like the use of shadows with this one. Like the O as well.

Thought this was class, even though its not really related to my work, but same type of technique.

Pro 2 Task 3: Development

Okay so while i was writing the list the first thing that the images made me think was “life”. I think i will use this word with my photos, i think it best explains what all the images are part of and what everything is about.

I like the “I” in the middle of this one above because i feel it sort of relates to me

I really like this one but i’m not sure if the type would be big enough. When i put the type in the small square i thought the whole layout looked a bit like a crossword puzzle.

I like this idea, but it doesn’t really look right just yet.

Ive just heard that you can only use one word for the piece. so I’m going to just go back to using the word “life” i would like to use the word puzzle,  but i feel it doesn’t totally relate to all the images. The word life does, and the way i have placed the photos is so they all lead to one central point which everything relates too.. life.

And now i’ve wrote life that many times it doesn’t look like a proper word anymore.

For this one below, i went back to the small type that fits inside the tiles. For some reason i really like it. I positioned the type under the point of the flower in the photo above it.

I made the type in the above image the full 3 inches long. And added a white stroke around it.

Pro 2 Task 3: Related words

Word Connections:

While i was picking the photos from the wall i was looking for textures, and just picked ones that i likes. Also the lines and shapes seemed to be similar.

When i was putting the photos into the collage above i started to think about how i felt about the photos, here are some of the words that i thought of in order:

Pro Two Task Two: Connections

Photo placement:

It wasn’t until i got home that i realised that i had only picked out 8 photos. i cropped the photos that i had and resized them to 3 x 3 inches i then put them into the 9 x 9 square.

I felt that the square tiles were a bit out of place so i put them in the centre.

I positioned the other photos to face in towards the centre or else curve round (the two middle sides). I also changed the top and bottom photos around and straightened up the center photo. I like how the top flower acts like an arrow.

This is the final nine photos in position.. now to add type.
